History

The Swiss Super League, also known as Raiffeisen Super League due to sponsorship reasons, is the top professional football league in Switzerland. It was founded in 1897 and has gone through several changes since then. The league currently consists of ten teams, and the season typically runs from July to May.

League system

The ten teams play each other four times during the season, for a total of 36 games each. At the end of the season, the team with the most points is crowned the champion, while the bottom team is relegated to the Swiss Challenge League. The ninth-placed team must participate in a relegation play-off against the second-placed team from the Challenge League to determine which team will play in the Super League the following season.

Stats

The team with the most Swiss Super League titles is Grasshopper Club Zurich, with 27 championships to their name. FC Basel has won the league 20 times, while BSC Young Boys has won it 15 times. The all-time top scorer in the Swiss Super League is Kubilay Türkyilmaz, who scored 192 goals during his career. The record for most goals in a single season is held by Seydou Doumbia, who scored 30 goals in the 2009-10 season.
